Soap bubbles

Time for Dreams

It all started in the Hexenwasser with a fascination for water and water experiments. One washing day, the witch added soap to her wash basin and stirred with her broom. Suddenly, many little colorful bubbles flew through the room. “Ah” and “Oh,” the visitors marveled. Then the witch stepped outside and waved her broom again. This time, the bubbles grew to the size of heads, and even bigger, shimmering in every color. Everyone was thoroughly delighted and impressed. And *pop*, the soap bubbles burst.

Gone in an instant; “Oh.” Yes, said the witch, that’s how everything goes. Let me show you the game of “impermanence.” You will meet the Soap Bubble Witch again on her travels. Maybe you’ll be lucky enough to swing her magic bubble wand. If so, make sure to have a good wish ready, one that you can send into the sky with the magic bubble.

PS: At the exit of the Hexenwasser gondola, in front of the Raven’s Nest, we’ll tell you where and when you can meet the Soap Bubble Witch.

The Stone Mill

Discover the magic hidden in stones!

The witches have always worn jewelry made from small polished river stones. They thought, “If our homeland here in Söll gives us so many precious stones, why would we need jewelry made of gold and diamonds?” In their stone mill along the barefoot path, the river pebbles are polished into round and smooth treasures.

Day after day, tirelessly and persistently, they work at it. With a giant spoon, you can “fish” for your own stone from the old mill and make it shine in the cold stream. But be careful… as soon as it dries, it loses its magical shine. It’s like magic. Some stones are even said to have a hole in them. How does that work? Hold a stone under a water droplet and one day…

The Humming Stone and resting places

Find a good tone and the right rhythm at the humming stone…

“Nothing propels us forward on our path better than a pause.” Taking a moment to stop, observe, and allow ourselves time to reflect sounds so simple, yet it’s not always easy to implement in our society. Our inner voice—or that of our children—pushes us forward, making it hard to find peace. In Hexenwasser, we invite you to take a break and let things settle.

Halfway up the high valley, for example, you’ll find a large stone with a head-sized hole. This is where witches sometimes guide those seeking advice and help. They ask visitors not to bury their heads in the sand but to rediscover their “good” tone. By repeating and practicing, you can keep this special tone. You’re invited to try it for yourself. The “good” tone cannot be made or forced—it sounds when you’re truly in tune with yourself. With this tone, you’ll find an echo, resonance, and peace.

During a stone massage, you can let your rhythm be changed by voluntary musicians, or you can achieve stillness on the rest loungers.

Hexophonie

(K)ein Hexenwerk

From the moment you board the Hexenwasser Gondola, the Söll witchcraft begins. In 2020, the 10-person gondola lift to “Hochsöll” was newly built, and the witches and wizards put their heads together. The idea to enchant each cabin uniquely led to the creation of what’s called “Hexophonie” – if you haven’t heard of it, you’ll never believe it!

You will be amazed by what the witches have to tell you. The locals of Söll, from young to old, lent their voices and recorded 72 different short stories. Each cabin features a unique motif by painter Dominique Rebourgeon, making it an artistic one-of-a-kind experience.

The Söll Federal Music Band also wanted to be part of this project and recorded 72 soundtracks, creating an “eccentric witch’s music” that beautifully accompanies the stories. Riding the gondola has turned into a total work of art, which you’ll only fully appreciate if you visit us at least 72 times. Of course, from a technical standpoint, the lift meets the highest standards, providing very comfortable transport for wheelchair users and families with strollers. And for those who don’t want to get off, there is the Breakfast Gondola, where you can sit and enjoy the ride for 2-3 hours…

Runnels, Raft, and Broom Pond

Damming up, standing still, and letting the water flow along the waterways at Hexenwasser.

When sitting in the sunshine at the exit of the Hexenwasser gondola and observing the arriving guests, one can repeatedly witness a magical phenomenon. Full of enthusiasm and drive, the guests begin their excursion towards the witches umbrellas. Equipped with a map, backpack, and a large to-do list, the hike begins. But then… a few hours later… you see the exact same family lying on the meadow just a few meters away. When asked what they have done, they smile and answer, ‘THIS.’

As soon as one reaches the fish pond with the Kneipp basins, water channels, and damming trenches, it’s as if bewitched. The children experiment, glide, marvel, and happily hop from stone to stone. Parents soak in the magical view of the Wilder Kaiser or allow themselves to be hypnotized by the dancing broomstick on the fish pond. ‘Just let it run’ – without pressure – without obligation. That’s exactly what we wish for our guests in Hexenwasser. For everything you may have missed, you may have gained something much more precious.

The Raven’s Nest

A place full of treasures for raven parents and raven children.

Our Raven’s Nest is a cosy spot – filled with many little souvenirs and a big portion of warmth and hospitality. Here you can take a piece of Hexenwasser home or relax with a witch’s brew. We hope to take care of you like raven parents. The idea that ravens aren’t good parents is actually a misconception. These black-feathered creatures dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to their offspring and stay with the same partner for life, raising their young together. Young ravens and crows often fall out of the nest and seem to wander abandoned on the ground, which may have contributed to their bad reputation.

But we witches aren’t always popular either, even though we are wise and friendly women. Alongside small treats, we keep sparkling stones, jewellery, coins, and many other treasures for the raven and for you in the Raven’s Nest. Perhaps we can improve the reputation of these clever black birds together?

A second chance to grab some Raven’s Nest items is here.

Hohe Salve

Reaching for the Sky

The name “Salve” comes from the Latin greeting “be greeted” or “be healthy.” It’s hard to describe what the calm and thoughtful patch of summit earth at Hohe Salve does to us. Some call it the peak of emotions. Discover it for yourselves! 70 three-thousand-meter peaks greet you in the distance on clear days, just as the majestic Salve Chapel stands watch over the entire region. It simply feels good to arrive here, and what feels good is healthy. Time for a “Salve”! And if the sun is shining, it’s your lucky day. Because on the Sun Dial Path – around the summit – you can experience and live time anew, here, close to the sky.

Not only about the Hexenwasser witches, but also about the Hohe Salve and its Salven Giant, there is a well-kept legend in Söll. You can even browse through the old witch books to learn more.

The massive head and protruding hand with the stone are the only remnants of the buried Salven Giant, who was supposedly the ruler of the surrounding valley landscapes many years ago. You can safely slide down his back and hide in his large hand. Among his greatest enemies was the cunning giant of Wildschönau, who ruled with a terrifying authority over the entire valley from high up on the Markbachjoch. The constant conflict between the Salven Giant and the Markbachjoch Giant was soon… (read the full legend here).

Time doesn’t pass, time doesn’t come, the time is now!

All life on Earth is connected with the celestial events. However, it cannot be counted, measured, weighed, or digitized. A wise proverb says: “Do as the sundial does: Count only the bright hours!”
We have created a scenic “Sun Path” to delight ourselves in the light and shadow. With this joy, we want to inspire you. The path takes us from the beginnings of celestial observation to the current ways of measuring time. The vastness of the Alps is concentrated here on a single shaded point. The summit features a wind harp, which may start singing for you with a bit of luck. The experience and discovery happen through participation, observation, experimentation, and playful engagement with the solar stations.

“We must do it. Experiencing is connected to movement. This is the hurdle. For centuries, we have been practiced at replacing experience with knowledge.” – Hugo Kükelhaus

You can start at any time or, on sunny Tuesdays, join a solar discovery tour with someone from our team. To relax and reflect, you can later rest on the terrace of the summit hut, which slowly rotates clockwise, digest, dream into the distance, beyond time.

“When you sit with a nice girl for two hours, it feels like a minute. But when you sit on a hot stove for a minute, it feels like two hours. That’s relativity.” – A. Einstein

Simonalm

The Chickens Are Clucking!

The Simonalm is a picturesque place where the past meets the lively clucking and cackling of today. In this over 300-year-old farm, everything revolves (or should we say everything ‘eggs’!) around the chicken and its masterpiece: the egg. We invite you to take a journey through the ‘Eilight Museum’.

The egg race is a creative, educational, and humorous tour through the mountain cabin. The main stars of the show can be found in the chick nursery and the chicken university in front of the house. Here, the ‘Almhühner’ (mountain chickens) laugh while enjoying the magnificent panorama. Come join us, marvel, and see what starts to hatch inside you. It’s the perfect time to forget about time itself!

EiEiEine Eierei

“Now stop ‘egging’ around and let’s move on!” Surely, you’ve rolled your eyes at this sentence when you were a child? At our ‘Eilight’ on the ‘Simonalm’, ‘egging around’ isn’t just allowed, it’s highly encouraged!

If you’ve discovered the world’s first egg ball track, you might marvel at the irregular rhythm in which the egg moves. It’s an eternal egg dance. Perhaps you’ll discover why the egg isn’t perfectly round? Or maybe you’ll meet a fluffy little bundle in the chick nursery. Would you like to know how long it took for that little creature to hatch from the egg? If you like, we can research together why the shell of the chicken egg is so enchantingly hard, by felting an egg!

EI-nzigartig EInfach

The Simonalm is an impressive, over 400-year-old farmhouse where animals have naturally found their place. Board by board, beam by beam, nail by nail, and stone by stone, the building was dismantled in a neighboring valley and carefully reassembled. It feels as if the farmhouse, with its fragrant garden, is calling to us: “Honor, protect, and preserve my animals and treasures!” The close coexistence with cows, chickens, swallows, and bees has always been part of life at Simonalm.

But one day, a fox tried to steal the happy chickens of the Simonalm. Luckily, the farmer had left the front door open, and the chickens hid for three days in the corners of the house, where they also laid their eggs. This is how the lively, feathered
creatures took over the Simonalm. In honour of them and their wondrous emergence, the ‘Eilight Museum’ was created.

In the ‘Egg art exhibition’ by artist Dominique Rebourgeon, you’re invited to investigate the ultimate question: “Which came first, the chicken or the egg?” As you wander through the small museum, you’ll discover egg-white messages in every corner and crevice. You won’t believe how much magic is hidden in a simple egg.

Hexerei

In each of our parlors and chambers, there is something to marvel at and try. Explore hidden corners of our witch headquarters on your own.

Witches headquarters

What is our “Hexerei”, you may ask? Our Hexerei is a place full of secrets and adventure! Right behind the forest of ants, wishing stones, springs, ferns and mushrooms is where you can find our mystical homestead. At the old stove of the witch’s kitchen, a fragrant witch’s brew might be bubbling away, or perhaps we are washing our feet in the copper tub of the enchanted bathroom. Follow the scent of incense and step across the threshold into the rustic old courtyard. We welcome you daily to share our witchy wisdom with you.

Where Witches Work, Rule, and Weave Their Magic…

In every one of our cozy rooms and chambers, there is something to marvel at and try. Explore the hidden corners of our witchy headquarters on your own—discover the secret scent cellar, the colorful witch’s atelier, or the stable. What do you feel under the witch’s hat when you grasp with your fingertips? The magic of true understanding often lies in seeing the ordinary in a new light! At Hexerei, we seek to change your perspective.

The head witch might be sleeping and snoring right now, but we, the friendly and wise herb witches, share a dose of witchy wisdom with you every day—rain or shine. Even we are still learning… and the cows, earthworms, ants, and bees are our daily teachers.

Join us in listening to nature’s secrets. If you visit at midday, precisely at 13:13, we’ll put on our witch spectacle! We’ll tell the tales of the first witches of this mountain—the Juffinger and the Saukogl witch. In the shadows of our clothesline, they dance as silhouettes. Or, together, we’ll send colorful magic spheres into the sky.

Witnesses of Time

A house full of life, a farmstead that tells a story—its voice carried by the witches. The magic began on the neighboring mountain, where an ancient farmhouse stood, destined for demolition. Beam by beam, it was carefully dismantled and lovingly rebuilt at Hexenwasser, once again filled with warmth and life. A living testament to the craftsmanship and way of life of past generations, this 300-year-old treasure was
saved. The legend of the Söll witches of Juffing and Saukogl, who gave Hexenwasser its name, is even older.

As early as the 16th century, the two sisters were said to have lived and ruled in the Söll mountains. Today, their successors—the Hexenwasser witches—carry the ancient knowledge of traditions and healing herbs into the modern world. Witchcraft here is not about hocus pocus or spells, but rather about valuable herbal wisdom, genuine hospitality, and a good dose of humor. As keen observers of nature, the witches welcome you to seek new questions, share laughter, and awaken your senses.
